BSF kills 1 in Jessore

Indian Border Security Force gunned down a Bangladeshi national along Agrabhulot border in Sharsha upazila of Jessore in the wee hours today.

The dead, Abu Sayeed, 18, was son of Jamaat Ali of Rampura village in the upazila, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

Confirming the incident, Lt Col Abdur Rahim, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh battalion 23, told the daily that the body of Sayeed was sent to Jessore 250-bed General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

BGB sent a letter to BGB protesting the killing. The paramilitary force also called upon the Indian border guards for a flag meeting. But BGB officials did not get any response till filing of this report.

Locals said five to six Bangladeshi citizens entered India through Panchbhulot border to bring cattle. BSF troops opened fire on them when they were returning home with cattle shortly after the midnight.

As Sayeed was hit by a bullet, his fellows managed to bring him to Bangladesh territory. But he died on way to his home, the daily reports quoting locals.   

Later, BGB personnel were informed about the killing.

Earlier on April 11, BSF killed two Bangladeshi youths along Daulatpur border in the same upazila of the district. BGB and BSF men held a flag meeting at a Benapole camp following the killings the same day.
