Buriganga boat capsize death toll reaches 16
Five more bodies were recovered from the Buriganga river today, raising the death toll from the Narayanganj trawler capsize to 16.
Divers of Fire Service and Civil Defence recovered the bodies between 7:00am and 9:00am, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting Md Momtaz Uddin, deputy director of the fire service.
Of the five bodies recovered today, two were identified as Abdus Samad, 35, son of late Wahed Ali; and Habib, 12, son of Abdul Aziz; of Shaheed Nagar in Dhaka’s Lalbagh area.
The trawler with some 70 to 80 passengers on board capsized in the river after being hit by a sand-laden bulkhead on Thursday afternoon.
Till yesterday, 11 bodies were recovered in the trawler capsize that sank in the river in Fatullah upazila of Narayanganj.
The Dhaka-bound trawler started from a traditional fair, known as Beltali Lengtar fair in Matlab of Chandpur.
