An alleged criminal was killed in a ’gunfight’ between police and his associates in Laxmipur Sadar upazila early today.
Deceased Kawsar, alias Boro Kawsar, 28 , son of Yunus of Pashchim Latifpur village in the upazila, was wanted in six cases including one for the murder of Awami League leader Faruk Hossain, police said.
Three policemen-- sub-inspector Kawsar Chowdhury and constables Ibrahim Hossain and Mohsin -- were also injured during the gunfight.
A team of Chandraganj Police Station arrested Kawsar from Baropol area on Wednesday, our Noakhali correspondent reports quoting ASM Mahtab Uddin, superintendent of police in Laxmipur.
Later, the law enforcers launched a drive in the area along with Kawsar, said the SP.
All of a sudden, Kawsar’s associates opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to fire back, initiating a “gunfight”.
Kawsar was caught in the line of fire while the other gang members managed to escape.
Kawsar was rushed to the Laxmipur Sadar Hospital where doctor declared him dead.
