Dhaka BNP activist killed in infighting
An activist of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, a workers’ front of BNP, was killed in a clash over formation of the party’s Dhanmondi unit committee near BNP’s Nayapaltan office today.
The deceased was identified as Babul Sardar, 45, organising secretary of the labour front of the party’s Dhaka city unit. He received stab injuries to his head and neck.
Morshed Alam, officer-in-charge of Paltan Police Station, told The Daily Star the clash broke out around 5:00pm. Two people were injured and Babul later succumbed at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
“Babul received stab injuries to his head and neck.”Abu Kawsar Bhiyan, 46, treasurer of the same front, who was injured in the clash, was undergoing treatment at DMCH when last reported.
Party insiders said, the activists engaged in a scuffle over formation of Dhanmondi unit committee after holding a meeting at Bhasani Bhaban, opposite to BNP headquarters, in this regard.
