Doctor arrested for sexually harassing patient in Sylhet
A doctor was sent to jail yesterday, allegedly for sexually harassing a patient in his chamber in Sylhet's Bianibazar.
Dr Jobayer Ahmed was arrested after the patient filed a case on Monday night, our local correspondent reports.
According to the doctor and his family, the case was filed to harass him as some influential locals do not want him to stay in the area.
Citing the case statement, Beanibazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zahidul Haque said, "The physician sexually harassed the patient, a teenage girl, when she went to his chamber on Monday."
"On information, we visited the spot around 8:30pm that day and found Jobayer confined by locals inside his chamber. We arrested him following the complaint made by the victim," the OC said.
Jobayer said that he protested against a syndicate related to illegal abortion in the area earlier in March 2018.
Following the protest, his chamber was attacked by locals and he was forced to stop practice for couple of months, the doctor added.
