TIB urges ACC to investigate JU corruption allegation
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) today called upon the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the allegations of corruption and irregularities in development projects at Jahangirnagar University.
The anti-graft watchdog thinks JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam should stay aside from the post on a temporary basis for the sake of proper and fair investigation into her alleged involvement in the corruption and irregularities.
At the same time, TIB voiced grave concern over the news that the students, who continued staging demonstration against the corruption on the university campus, are being harassed deliberately.
TIB Executive Iftekharuzzaman in a statement said that the removal of two top leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of the ruling Awami League, was a positive move but it was not enough in terms of ensuring transparency and accountability.
Accountability of both the student leaders have not yet ensured under the legal procedure and the investigation into the allegation brought against the VC and her family members has not been done yet despite having an allegation, Iftekharuzzaman said.
Iftekharuzzaman, in the statement, expressed grave concern as the ACC has yet not taken any initiative to investigate the matter and said, “We urge the ACC to conduct a free and fair investigation into the matter and held the real offenders accountable based on evidence.”
