Classes, exams suspended as JU teachers strike

Teachers of Jahangirnagar University began a week-long work abstention from today demanding removal of “discrimination” in the eighth national pay-scales. 

Jahangirnagar University Teachers Association (Juta) have abandoned regular classes and exams which sparked fear among students of further session knot, reports our university correspondent.

The teachers took the decision yesterday at an emergency meeting. They will continue the work abstention till January 2.

Juta demanded a fresh pay structure restoring selection grade, time scale, and salaries for a certain percentage of the university professors that is equal to that of the senior secretaries, and all assured promises made by high-ups of the government to public universities.

At the meeting, the association also condemned Finance Minister AMA Muhith's comments on public university teachers' agitation against the newly announced eighth national pay-scale.
