Mother, daughter gang-rape prime accused held
Rapid Action Battalion today arrested the prime accused in a case filed over the sensational gang-rape incident of a mother and her daughter in Narsingdi.
On information, a team of Rab-11 conducted a drive in Madhabdi municipality area of Narsingdi early today and arrested Mohammad Mokhles, 36 from there, said Lt Col Kazi Shamsher Uddin, commander of Rab-11.
Mokhles, son of late Chan Mia of Shritigarh area of Shibpur, is also accused in six other cases including those of robbery and arms, the Rab official said at a briefing held at Rab-11 office in Adamjee of Narayanganj this afternoon.
On March 15, the two women -- a mother and her daughter -- were “gang-raped” on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Shibpur area of Narsigndi at night.
Police later arrested two accused -- Delwar Hossain, 30, and Mohammad Shafik, 25, -- in connection with the incident after a case was lodged under Weman And Children Repression Act with Shibpur Police Station against six people on March 16.
According to the case statement, the victims were returning to Habiganj by a bus from Dhaka’s Sayedabad bus terminal around 3:00pm on Friday and the bus broke down as it reached near the Sristigarh bus stand in Shibpur area around 6:30pm.
In the meantime, some unknown people came to the victims and assured them of helping to get on another bus from a nearby area, the case statement reads.
At one stage, the criminals took them to a nearby abandoned jute mill and raped them taking the victims to separate rooms, according to the case statement.
Later, the criminals left the place as the victims, aged around 52 and 30, were screaming after the incident.
Mohammad Momenul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shibpur Police Station, said police along with the victims conducted raid in the area and arrested two of the accused Hossain and Shafik, who primarily confessed to the crime.
The rest three accused in the case are Mohammad Badal, 42, Babu Mia, 26, and Mohammad Alamgir, 40.
The law enforcers were continuing drive to nab the other accused.
