Mymensingh Stampede: Police officer suspended
A police officer has been suspended over the deaths of 27 people in stampede during Zakat distribution in Mymensingh.
Saidul Islam, a town sub-inspector (TSI) of Mymensingh police outpost-2, was suspended on charge of negligence in duty, our correspondent reports quoting Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
In a stampede for zakat clothes, 23 women and four children got trampled to death in Mymensingh town early yesterday.
Meanwhile, police today produced zakat donor Mohammad Shamim, who owns a chewing tobacco brand Nurani Jarda, his son and his six staff, before before the Cognisance Court-1 and sought seven-day remand for each of them.
Judge of the court Ahsan Habib will hear the remand prayer tomorrow.
The eight were arrested soon after the incident.
