Father, son lose life in Sirajganj road accident
Five people were killed in road accidents in three districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents and a news agency.
Three people including a man and his son were killed as a pickup van carrying them and a truck collided in Sirajganj yesterday, our Pabna correspondent reports.
The incident happened in Jhaoil bridge area near Bangabandhu bridge around 5am as the van driver lost control over the steering, said Syed Shahid Alam, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge West Zone Police Station.
Idris Ali, 50, his son Mojnu Hossain, 30, from Enayetpur village, and pickup driver Raju Hosssain, 27, from Sontosh village in Tangail Sadar upazila, died on the spot, he said.
Police sent the bodies to Sirajganj General Hospital morgue for autopsies.
Due to the accident, traffic remained halted for several hours until police and firefighters removed the damaged vehicles from the spot.
Our Jamalpur correspondent reports, a two-year-old child was killed when a human haulier ran her over in Foliamari village of Islampur upazila yesterday.
The deceased is Laboni Aktar, daughter of Shahidul Islam.
Quoting witnesses, police said the accident occurred when Laboni was playing beside the road near her house.
The driver fled the scene leaving the vehicle, said Aslam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Islampur Police Station.
UNB from Munshiganj adds, a quack doctor was killed when a sand-laden truck ran him over on Dhaka-Mawa highway near Shimulia Ferry Ghat in Louhajang upazila on the same day.
Jahangir Alam, 55, from Chhatinia village in Damuda upazila, died instantly, said police.
Inspector Mridul Ranjan Das of Mawa Traffic Police said the truck was seized and handed over to Louhajong Police Station.
