Garment worker 'gang-raped' in Tangail
Six people have been detained by police for allegedly raping a garment worker after she was abducted with her husband in Tangail last night.
Police detained the six people among eight who were accused in a case filed in connection with the rape, Saidur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tangail Model Police Station, told our local correspondent.
Rest two of the accused are absconding, the police official said adding that the case was filed by the victim's husband.
The 25-year old woman came to New Bus Terminal area in Tangail town with her husband last night when they were picked up by some unidentified men around 9:30pm, police said.
Later, the abductors took the woman to a different spot on the outskirts of the town and raped her there, the OC said.
Her husband, who was let go at some point of the incident, informed the police about the crime. Two of the accused were detained from a nearby area, police said.
Based on the information of the duo, law enforcers rescued the woman on the premises of a primary school outside the town, the police official said.
She was taken to Tangail General Hospital for treatment at 5:00am, the OC said.
The other four accused were detained after police raided different places on the same night, Sanjit Kumar Roy, superintendent of police in Tangail, told the correspondent.
Legal procedures were going on and a press briefing will be held later in the day, he added.
