M’singh-Chattogram rail link snapped after train derailment
A compartment of a freight train derailed at the home signal of Gouripur Railway Station this evening, disrupting rail communication between Mymensingh and Chattogram through Bhairab in Kishoreganj.
Railway sources said, a compartment of a Mymensingh-bound fertilizer-laden train from Bhairab was derailed at the station around 5:30pm, reports our local correspondent.
Some trains inclduing Chattogram-bound ‘Nasirabad Express’ and Mymensingh-bound ‘Isha Khan Express’ remained stranded at different stations due to the accident, said Md Johurul Islam, superintendent of Mymensingh Railway Station.
A relief train from Mymensingh was on the way to rescue the derailed compartment, the official said.
The official also said the rescue operation will be completed within short period.
Rail communication on the route was suspended till filing of this report.
Earlier, rail communications on the Mymensingh-Chattogram route was suspended for some nine hours due to derailment of three compartments of Chattogram-bound ‘Bijoy Express’ at Gouripur Railway Station’s outer signal around 10.00pm on Wednesday night.
Later, rail communications resumed on the route around 7:00am on Thursday after a relief train from Mymensingh salvaged the derailed coaches.
