‘Murder accused’ killed in Natore ‘gunfight’

Rohingya robber leader Nur Mohammad killed in gunfight

An accused of a murder case was killed in what law enforcers described as gunfight in Natore’s Lalpur upazila early today.

Deceased Sumon alias Shooter Manik, 48, son of Yusuf Ali, was a resident of Purbatengri Sherpara area of Pabna’s Ishwardi upazila.

He was an accused in the murder case filed in connection with the killing of Alok Bagchi of Lalpur, police said.

Police had arrested Manik in another case filed on charge of shooting a college student and snatching his motorcycle on July 5 in Natore’s Baraigram upazila, our local correspondent reports quoting Nazrul Islam Jewel, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalpur Police Station.

Last night, police officials were shifting Manik to Lalpur Police Station from Baraigram for further interrogation, the OC said.

Manik’s cohorts, who were hiding at Gopalpur on the way, opened fire at the police when they reached there around 2:00am forcing the law enforcers to retaliate triggering a “gunfight”, added the OC.

Manik was caught in the line of fire while trying to escape and got shot.

He was rushed to Lalpur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

At least 15 cases were filed against Manik with different police station.
