Amid countrywide outrage, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque today said that the names of freedom fighters and members of pro-liberation organisations will be dropped from the list of Razakars.

“After the removal of the names, the ministry will publish a fresh list,” the minister said.

The freedom fighters do not need to apply for dropping their names, the minister said.

He came up with the assurance during a programme organised by some freedom fighters in Manikganj this afternoon.

On Sunday, the government published a list of 10,789 Razakars who collaborated with the Pakistani occupation forces during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.

The Daily Star yesterday found 17 freedom fighters and organisers of the 1971 Liberation War on the list. Earlier, this newspaper noticed the names of seven freedom fighters on it.

Protests over the faulty list spread across the country yesterday as pro-liberation people held demonstrations in the capital, Barishal, Barguna, Rajshahi and elsewhere, demanding withdrawal of the list published by the Liberation War affairs ministry on Sunday.
