Prescription writing: Legal notice served to 2 doctors
A Supreme Court lawyer today sent a legal notice to two doctors of Dinajpur, accusing them of violating the High Court directive that ruled for writing prescriptions in capital letters or eligible manner so that the names of the medicine can be understood easily.
Advocate Manzill Murshid served it to Dr Progya Paramita Roy, a dental surgeon of M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur, and its director Dr Md Sarwar Alam, requesting them to explain their conduct in seven days about writing a prescription in violation of the HC order by Dr Progya Paramita Roy.
The lawyer sent the legal notice on behalf of Humayun Kabir Chisty, a senior reporter of ATN News, a private television channel, as Dr Progya Paramita Roy wrote a prescription on September 5 for Chisty’s mother Lutfa Azad, an emergency patient, in an ineligible manner.
Advocate Manzill Murshid told The Daily Star that Dr Paramita has violated the HC directive and Dr Sarwar is also responsible for the violation as he (Sarwar) is the director of the same hospital.
A contempt of court petition will be filed with the HC against Dr Paramita and Dr Sarwar if they don’t make any response to the legal notice in seven days, he said.
In the legal notice, the lawyer said following a writ petition the HC on January 9 last year ordered the authorities concerned of the government to issue circular asking doctors to write prescriptions clearly so that the names of the medicine can be understood easily.
Later on, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council issued a circular informing all the doctors to write the prescription in capital letters or eligible manner, he said in the legal notice, adding that Dr Progya Paramita Roy wrote a prescription on September 5 for emergency patient Lutfa Azad in violation of the HC directive.
