Road crashes kill 9 in 3 dists
Nine people were killed and eight injured in separate road crashes in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Dinajpur districts in 12 hours till this morning.
Among the deceased, five killed in Dhaka and two each in Rajshahi and Dinajpur.
DHAKA
A man was killed as a truck ran him over near Bosilla Bridge in Mohammadpur area of the city around 5:00am, Jamaluddin Mir, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, told The Daily Star.
Identity of the deceased could not be known yet, the OC said.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
In another incident, four day labourers were killed as a bus hit a rickshaw van in Mollarpul area on the Dhaka-Mawa highway in South Keraniganj area, on the outskirts of the capital, last night.
The deceased were identified as Shamsul Haque,42, Dulal Bepari,42, Mojammel,30, and Rahim,28.
Witnesses said a Dhaka-bound bus of Aram Paribahan rammed a rickshaw-van carrying the four day labourers around 10:00pm, leaving the four of the van seriously injured.
The injured were admitted to Mitford Hospital where Shamsul, Dulal and Mojammel succumbed to their injures at about 11:00pm.
Rahim, who was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital later, died at about 10:00am today.
Sub-inspector of South Keraniganj Police Station Aminul Islam confirmed the deaths.
Police seized the bus but its driver and helper managed to flee the scene. A case was filed in this connection.
DINAJPUR
A truck rammed a cattle-carrying human hauler, locally known as Nosimon, at Gopalganj in the town around 11:45am today, killing its two passengers dead on the spot and injuring eight others.
The deceased are Abdus Sattar, 65, and Md Babu, 30. Both of them are cattle traders, said ATM Khalequzzaman, OC of Dinajpur Sadar Police Station.
Three cattle were also killed in the road crash, the OC said.
RAJSHAHI
Two people were killed as a bus crashed into a human hauler on the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway in Faridpur area of Godagari upazila this morning.
The deceased were identified as Anarul Islam, 35, son of Moslem Ali, and Delwar Hossain, 40, son of Abdur Rahman, a resident of Char Anuponog area of the upazila.
S M Abu Farhad, OC of Godagari Police Station, said the accident took place around 6:00am, when the Chapainawabganj-bound Keya Paribahan bus hit the human haulier, leaving one of its passengers dead and another critically injured.
The injured died on the way to a local hospital, added the OC.
