The deceased was identified as Iran, 35, an accused in at least 10 cases with Banshkhali Police Station, Mehedi Hasan, deputy director of Rab-7, told our Chattogram correspondent.
The gunfight took place between a group of criminals and a Rab-7 patrol team in East Chambal area around 8:00am, the Rab official said.

In Chuadanga, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Joyrampur Kathaltala in Damurhuda upazila early today, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Rokonuzzaman Rokon, 35, son of Abu Bakkar Siddique of the upazila. He was wanted in 10 criminal cases.
Tipped off that two groups of drug peddlers were exchanging gunshots over establishing supremacy, a team of police went to the spot around 2:30 am, said Sukumar Biswas, officer-in-charge of Damurhuda Police Station.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on police, prompting them to fire back in self-defence, triggering a ‘gunfight’ among police and two groups of drug traders
At one stage, Rokon was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries while the other gang members managed to flee the scene.
Later, he was taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
One LG gun, two cartridges, one sack of phensidyl and two sharp weapons were recovered from the spot.
