No exams for students of class I-III from 2021
The government today decided that the students of classes I, II and III will not have to sit for any examination from 2021 academic year.
The students of these classes will not have to sit any examinations and they will be promoted to the next grade on the basis of the evaluation of their performance in the classes, said Akram Al Hossain, secretary of the Primary and Mass Education Ministry.
He was addressing a press conference organised on the occasion of International Literacy Day at his secretariat office in Dhaka. Primary and Mass Education Minister Zakir Hossain also addressed the programme to mark the day.
The decision will be implemented from 2021 academic year, Akram said adding that as a pilot project, the system will be introduced at 100 primary schools from 2020.
According to the new curriculum, there will be no traditional examinations for the students of classes I, II and III, he said. Alongside study, the students will be evaluated based on their overall performance like etiquette, manner and discipline, the secretary said.
Akram Al Hossain said the literacy rate is now around 73.9 per cent in the country. The rate was 53.5 per cent in 2005.
