No power in 8 villages, Gaibandha locals block highway

Locals blocked Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Gaibandha today for an hour protesting power cut in eight villages of Gobindaganj upazila for a week.

Around 300 villagers took to the highway at noon demanding resumption of power supply citing that they have been badly suffering in these hot days.

The power lines were disconnected in the storm-hit areas of the district, said Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Police Station.

A huge tailback occurred in the highway following the blockade, the OC said.
