UP polls: EC asks cops to withdraw Gazipur SP, 2 OCs

The Election Commission (EC) today asked the police authorities to withdraw the superintendent of police and officer-in-charges of two police stations of Gazipur for the sake of fair election as the district goes into Union Parishad (UP) polls on Saturday.

“The officials are Harun-Ur-Rashid, superintendent of police in Gazipur, Rakibul Haque, officer-in-charge of Kapashia Police Station and Ashaduzzaman of Shreepur Police Station,” EC Secretary Sirajul Islam told The Daily Star.

The EC said it is needed that the SP and the OCs of Kapashia and Shreepur police stations should be withdrawn to make sure that the election is held in a fair manner.

Voting in the third phase of UP polls will begin at 8:00am that day.
