A Sylhet court today accepted a petition filed by key accused Kamrul Islam praying it to record testimony of 13 witnesses for the second time in the murder case of 13-year-old boy Samiul Alam Rajon.

Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Akbar Hossain Mridha granted the petition after Kamrul was produced before his court, Emad Ullah Shahidul Islam, a counsel for the victim's father, told our Moulvibazar correspondent.

The court will start recording the statements from tomorrow and also decided to hear arguments on October 25.

Kamrul's lawyer Ali Haider filed the petition today, two days after the court finished recording testimony of 36 witnesses in the case.

Haider told The Daily Star that he filed the petition as he and his client were not present at the court when it recorded the witnesses' depositions between October 1 and 18.

On September 22, the court indicted 13 persons including Kamrul in the murder case.

Kamrul, who fled to Saudi Arabia soon after the murder, was however brought back home by a Bangladesh police team on October 15 and produced before the court on the next day.

The other accused are Muhit Alam, Ali Haider, Nurul Amin, Dulal Ahmed, Nur Mia, Ayaz Ali, Tajuddin Ahmed alias Badal, Firoz Ali, Shamim, Ruhul Amin alias Moyna, Pavel and Asmat Ali.

Among them, Shamim and Badal are on the run.

On July 8, a group of brutes bludgeoned Rajon to death in Kumargaon Bus Stand area of Sylhet Sadar upazila as a punishment allegedly for his crime of stealing a rickshaw-van. One of the culprits even filmed the horrendous scene to share it on Facebook.
