‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with detectives
A suspected robber was killed in a “gunfight” with detectives in Comilla Sadar upazila early today.
Deceased Abu Taher, 28, son of Abul Khayer Miah and a resident of Songraish area of Comilla city, was a kingpin of the robber gang.
Manzurul Alam, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of police, Comilla, said tipped- off that a gang of bandits was taking preparation to commit robbery on the bank of Gomoti River, a DB team carried out a drive at Alekharchar Amtoli around 1:30am.
Sensing presence of the DB members, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate that triggered the “gunfight”.
One of the robbers caught in the line of fire during the “gunfight” and died on the spot while one of another was detained, the OC said.
Abu Taher was the main suspect of an incident of mugging in which Tk 40 lakh of Max Company were snatched from South Chartha area of the city last year, he added.
