Stalkers desperate
Studies of two sisters have been stopped for the last one week due to continuous threat by some stalkers at Uttor Dhamura village of Uzirpur in Barishal.
The victims are Ity Aktar, 15, who appeared in this year's SSC examinations from Dhamura High School in Ujirpur and Sathi Aktar, 17, first year student of Barisal Government Women's College.
Ity started a computer course after SSC examinations but now she cannot go outside without escort and Sathi cannot go to her private tutors and college due to the stalkers, said their mother Hasina Begum.
“Early in January, stalker Monir came to our house at night and tried to make illicit relation with my younger daughter when I was absent and he threatened to kill my daughter when he failed,” said Hasina.
On January 20, Ity came under acid attack on her way to private tutor's house. Her face was burnt and she was taken to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as her condition worsened.
Later, a case was filed with Uzipur Police Station, accusing Shafiqul Islam Howlader, 21, Monir Khan, 28, and Ripon, 30, of the same village.
Police then arrested main accused Monir and sent him to jail but he was released on bail on March 27 and again started threatening the members of the family, including the two sisters.
Finding no other way, the family filed a general diary with the same police station in this connection two weeks ago, said Hasina.
Monir and his gang continued threatening them on their way to their educational institutions to withdraw the case, said Sathi.
“Our education is disturbed as we cannot go out of the house,” she added.
Regarding filing of the GD, Shishir Chandra Halder, officer-in-charge of Ujirpur Police Station, said they are investigating the incident.
