Driver confesses rape, murder of Tania
Swarnalata Paribahan bus driver, who is an accused in nurse Shahinoor Akter Tania murder and rape case, today made a confessional statement before a court in Kishoreganj.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Al Mamun recorded the statement of driver Nuruzzaman, 39, under section-164, said Officer-In-Charge (Investigation) of Bajitpur Police Station Md Sarwar Jahan.
“Nuruzzaman confessed that he and helper Lalon Mia, 33, and another one killed Tania after raping her inside the bus,” said Md Sarwar Jahan, also the investigation officer of the case.
But the name of the third accused was not revealed for the sake of the investigation.
Later, the court sent Nuruzzaman to jail, the police official told our Mymensingh correspondent.
Tania, who worked at Ibne Sina Hospital’s Kalyanpur branch in the capital, was murdered and raped on a running bus on her way home in Kishoreganj’s Katiadi upazila, family claimed.
Police earlier arrested five people, including Nuruzzaman and Lalon in connection with the murder and rape.
They were placed on an eight-day remand on Wednesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem report into Shahinoor Akter Tania’s death was submitted to police today, said Dr Md Habibur Rahman, civil surgeon of Kishoreganj. Quoting the report, the civil surgeon said Tania was gang-raped before killing.
