Take stern action against illegal sand extraction: Minister

Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif directed the deputy commissioners to take strict measures against those who illegally extract ‘lakhs of tonnes’ of sand from river beds.

Shamsur Rahman Sharif today also said that such illegal extraction of sand from our rivers is harmful for the environment and the extraction process happens illegally.

He said this on the second day of the three days long DCs meeting where the Environment Minister and the Cabinet Secretary were also present. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the DCs conference at the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday.
