CID busts cyber plot targeting Atif Aslam concert in Dhaka
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested Arif Arman (30) for his involvement in a significant cyberattack on the Ticket Tomorrow platform, which resulted in the breach of sensitive customer data. The data leak occurred on October 23 this year and exposed personal information—including names, addresses, and contact details—of customers purchasing tickets for an upcoming concert by Pakistani singer Atif Aslam.
The attack, orchestrated to tarnish the reputation of Triple Time Communications and its event partner Ticket Tomorrow, was allegedly an attempt to sabotage the high-profile "Magical Night 2.0" concert, reads a press release.
The concert, scheduled for November 29 at the Bangladesh Army Stadium, is expected to draw massive public attention. Bangladesh's own Tahsan Khan and the popular band Kaaktaal, along with Pakistani rising artiste Abdul Hannan, will join the stage with Atif at this upcoming concert.
According to the CID's Cyber Intelligence and Risk Team, Arif Arman collaborated with Mozammel Haque Johny, Chairman of Adventor Global Ltd., and Abdullah Al Mamun, Chief Technology Officer of Tickify, to carry out the cyberattack. The trio confessed over a recorded call that the breach was a retaliatory act aimed at disrupting the event's success and harming the involved companies' reputations.
Using fake accounts, the culprits leaked the data, and investigators suspect additional involvement from other partners and employees of Adventor Global Ltd and Tickify. CID officials stated that jealousy and professional rivalry motivated the plot.
During Arman's arrest on November 24, CID officers confiscated multiple devices, including laptops, phones, and external hard drives, that were allegedly used in executing the cybercrime. These devices are currently under forensic analysis.
A CID spokesperson remarked, "We are grateful to our team for resolving this sensitive issue swiftly, ensuring public trust in the face of such malicious activities."
The breach raised significant concerns about data security and the ethical responsibilities of tech and event management companies in Bangladesh. As the investigation unfolds, additional arrests and legal action may follow, ensuring accountability for those involved.
Ticket Tomorrow and Triple Time Communications have reassured customers that steps are being taken to strengthen security protocols, ensuring such incidents do not recur.
