Alliance Française to exhibit handcrafted musical instruments
Alliance Française de Dhaka is set to host a distinctive exhibition featuring traditional musical instruments handcrafted by Mohammad Zakir Hossain. Titled "Symphony of Healing", the exhibition will officially open on November 25 at 6pm at La Galerie in Dhanmondi.
The inaugural ceremony will be graced by eminent Baul artiste Shafi Mondol, who will attend as the chief guest.
The exhibition will be accessible to visitors from November 25 to November 29, with daily viewing hours from 3pm to 9pm. According to Mamunur Rashid, the media representative of Alliance Française de Dhaka, the event is open to all.
The authorities of Alliance Française de Dhaka shared with the local media that the exhibition aims to celebrate the rich heritage of Bengali music, which spans thousands of years. Over time, as societal dynamics have evolved, so too has Bengali music, influencing the traditional instruments that shape its sound.
Mohammad Zakir Hossain, a young entrepreneur and music researcher, established a cultural research initiative titled "Abokolpo." For the past three years, he has been deeply involved in exploring and innovating with Bengali musical instruments. This exhibition presents a curated selection of his groundbreaking work.
The exhibition will showcase innovative interpretations of local and indigenous musical instruments, alongside an engaging lineup of seminars, workshops, and live performances of Bengali folk music. The event has been thoughtfully curated by Lucy Tripti Gomez.
Hailing from Gaibandha, Bangladesh, Mohammad Zakir Hossain was born in 1994. He pursued his musical education in Kolkata between 2016 and 2022, gaining expertise in diverse genres such as Indian classical music, Rabindra Sangeet, Bengali folk traditions, and contemporary music.
