Alliance Française de Dhaka is currently hosting an eye-catching exhibition that brings together rich pieces of Bangladesh's cinematic and cultural history: rickshaw art and iconic Bangladeshi cinema posters.

Titled "Rickshaw Artistry: A World Heritage", the exhibition highlights vibrant, hand-painted posters of superhit films, including the legendary action movie "Shodor Ghater Kuli", which starred renowned Dhallywood actor Rubel and was directed by Raqibul Alam Raqib.

These works of art once adorned rickshaws, a beloved mode of transportation in Bangladesh, giving them both a functional and artistic role in the country's streets.

The exhibition, featuring the works of Nobo Kumar Bhadra, a celebrated artist who has spent over 30 years preserving the tradition of rickshaw painting, will showcase 16 unique paintings, 17 pencil sketches, and 36 works painted on tin sheets.

Bhadra's talent, honed in the 1980s while painting posters and banners for Bangladeshi films, has been lauded both at home and internationally, with his first solo exhibition recognised as a significant contribution to Asian art.

The exhibition offers a nostalgic journey through old Bangladeshi cinema posters and captures not only the dramatic moments of films but also the scenic beauty and folklore of rural Bengal.

Running until January 24, this open-for-all exhibition offers vibrant glimpses into a fading art form that once embellished the streets of Dhaka.
