Azad Abul Kalam, Saif Suman to lead Theatre Artists Association of Dhaka
The newly established "Theatre Artists Association of Dhaka" (TAD), aimed at ensuring the rights and welfare of theatre artistes, has officially formed its 13-member executive committee. Actor and director Azad Abul Kalam has been named president, while Saif Suman takes on the role of secretary general.
The committee will serve until December 2026. The decision was approved during the association's first general meeting, attended by 80 of the 170 registered members, held at the National Theatre Auditorium in the capital, reads a press release.
The association, which was officially launched on October 19 this year through a press conference, seeks to represent the rights, interests, and welfare of theatre artistes in Dhaka. The newly formed committee marks the association's full organisational structure.
Key positions include Irene Parveen Lopa as vice president, Toufiqul Islam Emon as secretary of organisation, and Shamim Sagar as treasurer. Additional appointments include Asadul Islam as secretary of Office, Nazneen Hasan Chumki as secretary of Communication, Apu Shahid as secretary of Events, Kazi Roksana Ruma as secretary of Welfare, and AK Azad Setu as secretary of Club.
Executive members include Amlan Biswas, Reza Arif, and Sanchita Sharmin Pia.
The association's primary mission is to advocate for the rights and welfare of stage artistes, both on and behind the scenes, in the context of Dhaka's theatre community. It aims to strengthen relationships, enhance artistic skills, and represent the collective interests of the city's theatre practitioners.
Any theatre artiste, including actors, directors, playwrights, designers, or stage crew, who has been actively involved in Dhaka's theatre scene for at least five years, is eligible to apply for membership.
