Censor board demands revised version of ‘Besharam Rang’ amidst controversy
Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone's song "Besharam Rang", from the film "Pathaan", stirred up controversy when Indians began calling for a boycott of the film. While some called the song 'vulgar' for Deepika's bold avatar, others cited Deepika's 'gerua' coloured attire an insult, as the song itself is titled "Besharam Rang" (shameless colour).
Following the controversy, many Hindu organisations threatened to burn Shah Rukh Khan alive and set fire to theatres screening "Pathaan". Madhya Pradesh's home minister, Narottam Mishra also criticised the song by stating that it "has been shot with a dirty mindset".
Now, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has instructed the makers of "Pathaan" to implement new changes and submit a more 'proper' version of "Besharam Rang".
CBFC chairperson, Prasoon Joshi said, "Pathaan went through the due examining process as per the CBFC guidelines. The committee has guided the makers to implement the advised changes in the film, including the songs, and have asked for a revised version to be submitted prior to its theatrical release."
"Whilst the process is getting duly followed and implemented, I must reiterate that our culture and faith is glorious, intricate and nuanced. And we have to be careful that it does not get defined by trivia which takes the focus away from reality. And like I have said earlier as well, that the trust between creators and audience is the most important thing to protect," added Prasoon.
The second song from the movie, "Jhoome Jo Pathaan", which was just released by Yash Raj Films, gained a tremendous amount of love from the audience.
