Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel are all set to return as Tara Singh and Sakina for the much awaited movie "Gadar 2", which will hit theaters on August 11.

In a new interview with Lehren Retro, director Anil Sharma reminisced on the film's negative critical reception and how it exceeded all box office expectations after its 2001 release. The director also compared the films to "Mughal-E-Azam" and "Sholay."

"At the time, even though 'Gadar' was a big hit, many people did not respect the film. It's fine. The same situation happened with 'Mughal-E-Azam' and 'Sholay'; neither film received an award. The public, on the other hand, adored and admired the film," said the director.

The director also recalled the time when "Gadar" was called 'gutter' by the industry.

"The film was titled 'Gutter Ek Prem Katha' in the initial reviews I read. A major English-language newspaper reviewer stated that evaluating it was beneath their class. I am still baffled as to why folks were so cruel," added the director.

Meanwhile, according to reports, "Gadar 2" is on track for a massive first-day box office haul, as the film has already sold over 1 lakh tickets at multiplexes.

Earlier on, the trailer of "Gadar 2" was released on July 26. The film revolves around Tara and Sakina's son Jeete (Utkarsh) who  is tortured by a Pakistani army officer in the caravan. Tara Singh goes to Lahore and sledgehammers Pakistani army personnel to get back his son.
