Garo short film earns spot at Dharamshala Int’l Film Fest
The Bangladeshi short film "Bikinggri Etchaluk" (A Snail without Shell) has been officially selected for screening at the Dharamshala International Film Festival, which is set to take place from November 7-10 in the Himalayan town of McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala, India.
The 15-minute drama will be screened at the festival on November 10.
Directed by emerging filmmaker Mohin Rakhaine, the short film explores the lifestyle and challenges faced by the Garo community, with dialogue in the Garo A'chik and Bangla languages. Shot in Chengini village, Kolmakanda upazila of Netrokona district, the film stars Garo community actors Subinath Mankhin, Projuta Raksam, Alias Raksam, and others.
"Bikinggri Etchaluk" premiered at South Korea's 12th Diaspora International Film Festival and has since been selected for other notable international events, including the 23rd New York Asian Film Festival and the International Film Festival of South Asia in Toronto, 2024.
The film was produced by Manoj Pramanik, and co-produced by Aung Rakhaine, while Samiul Karim Shuptak handled the cinematography.
Centred on the personal story of loss within a Garo couple, the film also touches on broader themes such as displacement and migration, as their village faces an uncertain future.
Produced under the banner of Manpachitra, the short film features music by artistes Sayonton Mangsang and Alan Shirsho Raksam.
