The Suman Mukhopadhyay directorial film "Putulnacher Itikatha" also known as "The Puppet's Tale" is set to compete at the Big Screen Compilation line-up at the 54th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR).

The film will be competing alongside other movies which include "The Assistant", "Back to the Family", "Bad Painter", "¡Caigan las rosas blancas!", "Gowok: Javanese Kamasutra", "De idylle", "Macai", "Orenda", "L'oro del Reno", "Our Father – The Last Days of a Dictator", "Raptures", "Soft Leaves", and "Yasuko, Songs of Days Past".

The director announced the news on his social media account with the caption, "Putulnacher Itikatha" - A World Premiere at the Rotterdam International Film Festival in the 'Big Screen Competition' —one of the most prestigious festivals in the world. I couldn't have imagined a better beginning for the film."

"This is a high point in my filmmaking career. Based on the iconic novel by Manik Bandyopadhyay, this film has been a dream of mine for the past 16 years. Finally, with the unwavering support of Samiran Das and Kaleidoscope, that dream has come true. I am deeply grateful to the extraordinary cast and crew who gave their utmost dedication and talent to this film," concluded his post.

The film stars Abir Chatterjee, Jaya Ahsan, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, and Dhritiman Chaterji, amongst others. 

In this film, Jaya portrays the character of Kusum, while director Suman brings the pre-independence era to life on screen, highlighting the late 1930s to early 1940s.
