Korean actor dropped from Netflix amid drug scandal
South Korean actor Yoo Ah-In has been removed from Netflix's supernatural series "Hellbound' season 2 due to his alleged drug consumption.
Kim Sung-Cheol, 31, will replace Yoo's character, a cult leader, in the second season, according to a press release issued by the streaming service.
Yoo, whose real name is Uhm Hong-Sik, is being investigated by police after a report by South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety revealed that he had been purchasing propofol, a powerful sleep-inducing drug, for non-medical purposes since 2021.
After the police sent his hair and urine samples to the National Forensic Service for testing in February, the 36-year-old tested positive for marijuana and propofol. Later on, officials also confirmed on March 2, that he tested positive for cocaine and ketamine.
"Hellbound" is about people who are suddenly visited by mysterious messengers who damn them to hell, a cult that emerges amid the chaos, and those who try to solve the mystery. The series' first season starred Yoo, as well as actors Kim Hyun-Joo and Park Jeong-Min. When it was released in November 2021, it debuted at the top of Netflix's list of most-watched TV shows.
