Actor Wasim was an essential part of the film industry, having left a mark with his performances in countless period films. Many of his featurette projects were critically acclaimed and commercially successful. 

While he starred in social and action films during the golden era of Bangladeshi cinema, however, it was the costume genre that brought him the most fame.

Today commemorates the actor's death anniversary—he departed for his eternal rest on this very day in 2021.

Over his long career, Wasim acted in 152 films. His notable works include "Daku Mansur", "Tufan", "Saudagor", "Dui Rajkumar", "Norom Gorom", "The Rain", "Bedouin", "Chondon Dweeper Rajkonna", "Rajdulari", "Rosher Baidani", "Iman", "Sheesh Naag", "Rajnandini", "Mokabela", "Omar Sharif", "Alif Laila", "Shahzadi Gulbahar", "Binisutaar Mala", "Sohag Milan", "Nantu Ghotok", "Dhan Daulat", "Banjaran", "Razia Sultana", "Ghore Baire", "Rajkumari", "Hasnahena", "Miss Lolita", "Daku O Dorbesh", "Alal Dulal", "Rongin Shagor Bhasha", "Maleka Shundari" and many others.

Wasim made his debut as a leading actor in "Rater Por Din", directed by Mohsin. The film earned him wide recognition right from the start. From there, his career only progressed, establishing him as one of the finest heroes in Bangladeshi cinema.

The film "The Rain" brought him fame beyond Bangladesh, with global recognition and honour. Starring opposite Olivia, the film was released in 46 countries. Its song "Ay Re Megh Ay Re" remains a favourite even today, as does "Eka Eka Keno Bhalo Lage Na". Wasim and Olivia again starred together in "Bedouin", which featured the hit song "Kotha Keno Tui Bolish Na".

The Wasim and Shabana-starrer "Dui Rajkumar" was a major hit, known for the song "Chor Ami Dhorechi". Another success of theirs was "Banjaran", with its standout track "Amra To Banjaran", alongside the popular numbers "Modhubone Kane Kane" and "Hatu Jole Neme".

The duo's film "Dost Dushmon" was another commercial success, remembered for the song "Chumki Cholechhe Eka Pothe". "Toofan', another hit, gifted audiences the memorable song "Hirar Cheye Dami, Phuler Cheye Nami". Their film "Shiri Farhad" also gained much popularity, along with many other successful projects.

Wasim's pairings with Anju Ghosh were also met with audience admiration. "Norom Gorom" was one such film, featuring the hit song "Ei Brishti Bheja Rate Chole Jeona". Another popular film of theirs was "Chondon Diper Rajkonna", which included the beloved songs "Bonamali Porojonome Hoyio Radha" and "Ami Tomari Premer Bhikhari". In "Saudagar", Wasim and Anju Ghosh delivered another hit, featuring the song "Ore Mon Chora Tumi Pore Gechho Dhora".

Wasim also starred opposite Rozina in the successful film "Rosher Baidani", which included popular tracks like "Tumi Amar Baromashi Gaan" and "O Roshia Nagar Amar Mon Pinjirar Mon".

Another of Wasim's leading ladies was Zoba Chowdhury. They paired up in "Jighangsha", known for the hit "O Onupoma O Nirupoma". Zoba also acted alongside Wasim in "Daku Mansur".

Wasim's debut film "Rater Por Din" featured Bobita as his co-star.

Interestingly, he began his career behind the camera as an assistant director in 1972, working on "Chhondo Hariey Gelo", directed by SM Shafi. He also appeared in a small role in that film.

During his student years, Wasim gained fame as a bodybuilder, winning the East Pakistan title in 1964.
