Syed Jamil Ahmed becomes first secretary-ranked DG of Shilpakala Academy
For the first time in history, Syed Jamil Ahmed, playwright and academic, has been appointed as the director general of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) with the rank of secretary in the government.
A gazette notification to this effect was issued on November 21 by Abul Hayat Md Rafiq, deputy secretary, Ministry of Public Administration, on behalf of the president. Jamil Ahmed will serve as director general with all the accompanying salary and benefits of a secretary-level position.
Previously, directors general of the Shilpakala Academy had held the rank of additional secretary. This appointment marks a significant elevation in the status of the position.
The order was issued in the public interest, according to the notice.
Earlier, on 9 September, Syed Jamil Ahmed was appointed for a two-year term as director general. Initially hesitant, he accepted the role after reconsideration. Ahmed, a renowned scholar and theatre director, brings a wealth of experience to the position following former director general Liaquat Ali Lucky's resignation in August.
