‘Wicked’ and ‘Shōgun’ top SAG Awards nominations list
On the heels of a remarkable start to Hollywood's awards season with the 2025 Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards has officially announced its list of nominations for this year.
It comes as no surprise that Universal's "Wicked", the Broadway musical adaptation, leads the film categories with five nominations. Meanwhile, FX/Hulu's "Shōgun" dominates the TV categories, also securing five nods.
With these five nominations, "Wicked" has made history, tying for the most nominations ever received by a film in SAG history.
It has joined the ranks of past five-time nominees such as "Shakespeare in Love" (1998), "Chicago" (2002), "Doubt" (2008), "The Banshees of Inisherin" (2022), and "Everything Everywhere All at Once" (2022). Among them, "Shakespeare in Love", "Chicago", and "Everything Everywhere All at Once" won the SAG Award for Best Cast Ensemble before going on to claim the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Alongside its nomination for Best Cast Ensemble, "Wicked" has also secured nods under categories for Best Actress (Cynthia Erivo), Best Supporting Actress (Ariana Grande), and Best Supporting Actor (Jonathan Bailey). Additionally, the film received recognition in the Stunt Ensemble category.
Directed by Jon M Chu, "Wicked" is adapted from the widely acclaimed Broadway musical of the same name.
Trailing behind "Wicked" is James Mangold's Bob Dylan biopic, "A Complete Unknown", which earned four nominations, including Best Cast Ensemble and Best Actor for Timothée Chalamet. Also competing for Best Ensemble are Sean Baker's "Anora", Edward Berger's "Conclave", and Jacques Audiard's "Emilia Pérez".
In television, "Shōgun" earned nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, along with individual nods for Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, Anna Sawai, and the stunt team.
Competing in the Drama Series category are "The Day of the Jackal", "Bridgerton", "The Diplomat", and "Slow Horses". Meanwhile, contenders in the Comedy Series category include "Abbott Elementary", "The Bear", "Hacks", "Only Murders in the Building", and "Shrinking".
The in-person nominations announcement was cancelled due to the Los Angeles wildfires, with the nominees instead being revealed on the website of SAG Awards.
The 2025 SAG Awards will be streamed live on Netflix on February 23 in the US and February 24 in India, with Kristen Bell set to host.
