Flight operations at Sylhet Osmani International Airport resumed today (June 23, 2022) after six days of suspension due to the massive flood in Sylhet region.

Rajib Rahman, station manager of US-Bangla Airlines, told The Daily Star that a fight of the private air operator departed from Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 8:00am and landed at Sylhet airport at around 8:50am.

Flight operations at Osmani International Airport remained suspended since June 17 as runway of the airport went under flood water.

Although flood water started receding from the runway from Sunday, flight operations couldn't start as lighting of approach area still remained under water.

State Minister for Civil Aviation, M Mahbub Ali, and Member (Operations) of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), Air Commodore Sadequr Rahman, on Monday visited Sylhet to get a first-hand experience on the airport's situation.

A technical team of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) later examined the lighting system of the runway's approach area.

After getting green signal from the CAAB team, flight operations resumed from this morning, sources at the Sylhet Airport said.

Apart from flight operations by all three airlines of the country, Biman Bangladesh Airlines operates three direct flights to London from Sylhet every week.
