A home that invites envy

It is a reflection of the interests and the understanding of the members where each and every brick of a house echoes the stories of the family living inside it.

As we know, synchronisation of interests is very important while decorating a house. A home is too personal a space to let interior designers work through based on their choices. And often interior designers fail to portray the identity of the family in their designs. Now-a-days the malpractice is to set exclusive wallpapers, designer tiles and other features in a common manner, with minor improvisations. But interior designing can be and needs to be more powerful than that. A home should present the collective history of families. They can connect through trails of photographs, music collections, a library, etc. These can make the interiors of a home unique.

An architect by profession, Nurur R Khan decorated his own house using a wonderful sense of composition. He has blended history with latest inventions and put them side by side. He himself is an avid art lover and his wife shares similar interests. Khan and his son listen to the same genre of music and collect accordingly. His collection of books is now an extension of a library formed by his father.

According to Khan, nobody can decorate a house and give it the flavour of a home, unless the designer is connected to members of the family and know them personally. The art of interior is basically in portraying the characters living inside the house in each and every corner.

Architect and professor Nurur R Khan is a collector of paintings of artists from home and abroad. He has been collecting art for almost ten years now and has a wonderful range of paintings in his collection. He has artworks by Zainul Abedin, Giasuddin, Faridujjaman, Rafiqul Mumin, Quamrul Hassan, Shahabuddin among others. But his interests also include foreign artists. As a matter of fact, one of his greatest treasures is a lithograph by Salvador Dali, the famous Spanish artist.

Khan has collected antique crafted doors and windows, from Old Dhaka, which are almost a hundred years old. He put them in a stylish manner in his living room. Such harmony of aristocracy and sophistication of culture and art certainly invites the envy of followers of fine arts and heritage.
