Wake your wall up

Imagine if Michelangelo had looked up at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and decided it really did not need anything else. That would have meant that we would never witness the famous fresno titled 'The Last Judgement' and no one would talk as much about the Chapel either. That blank wall or ceiling on your room is your chance to bring out the Michelangelo in you. Of course, you'll never be able to replicate anything so close to the Last Judgement, but can it really be any worse than a dull drab wall?

This year, why not start by adding more personality to your homes? Shouldn't the space you occupy be a reflection of who you are? Maybe not, because it does sound like a lot of hard-work but that doesn't mean there aren't a few simple things you can do to make your rooms more interesting. Start off with the basics. We all have posters of things or people we love. If you don't, go out and get them because you can't anymore after a certain age. Instead of just putting on your favourite picture, customise your wall colour to complement your collection. Imagine a Tony Montana, Scarface poster framed against a red and white wall. That'll instantly conjures up images of the card-board Cuban gangster. It makes your room all the more attractive too.

If posters aren't your thing and showing off isn't your cup of tea, then why not do something just for yourself? A dark blue ceiling littered with glow in the dark stick-on stars can induce sleep faster than staring into nothingness. You can even paint the entire galaxy and little lights for each star or planet, bringing the Milky Way as alive as possible. You can style the surrounding walls with planets and galaxies as well. Everyone likes stars and it makes your room a little more psychedelic. You can paint on cartoon characters for a kid's room or even custom make lamp shades to throw off certain shapes of shadows to give your room further life.

Surprising a loved one by painting their room is a really cool idea too. Just make sure you have permission or support of your peers and don't do something too overwhelming. You can even get decorative paint now that come in different patterns and designs, so you don't have to be too artistic to pull off something like this.
