The true hues of monsoon

The end of summer has passed, and grey clouds are coming and going in their own rhythm. While global warming has made the weather more unpredictable than usual, the presence of the rainy season has not changed. Are you planning to go with a particular shade of the clear summer skies to overthrow the rainy gloom? Think again, for blue is really not the only shade of monsoon!

Suddenly the many decades of colour conditioning unfurls-- how is it even possible! And you are nearly screaming internally- what are the other colours that truly go with monsoon?

For the fashion conscoius, good news-- your wardrobe of bright hues are actually the colours to brighten up the drizzling gloom! While the urban streets can and will paint your white or cream coloured outfit with a spray of unwashbale brown, with a little tact, you can wear your favourite bright oranges and yellows. Even if you can't wear the clothes, let your monsoon essential accessories be the bright beacons!

If you are going for home decor, follow feng shui and energise your abode with bright and bold vibes. Throw in purple and pink in the form of mats and paintings, get creative with green for a tropical jungle monsoon ambience. But avoid black and grey and other dark colours as they will not only minimise the little natural light your home gets this season, but also create a smaller, unwelcome space. If you must use a shade of blue, go for turquoise. Instead of the gloomy blue associated with the season, this particular blue (or blue-green) adds a luxurious warmth to the interior.  

Short on creative inspirations? Take a page out of mother nature's finest flowers. The Kadam (Neolamarckia cadamba) is the herald of the rainy season, and when in full bloom, resembles miniscule suns! Joba (Hibiscus), Rongon (Ixora coccinea), Kath Golap (Plumeria) and other bright showy flowers including orchids, which grow throughout the year, turn out a generous blooming bounty this season. Even nature is not limiting herself to a particular shade, so why should you?

If you are still wondering who in the world decided to stick to blue as a monsoon colour, the answer to it is as elusive as the Six Millennium Prize Problems left unsolved! But we are simple and such complications are no good for any of us. So enjoy your colour palette the way you want, whether in compliments or contrasts,  make the shades your own.
