‘Neo JMB man’ held in Dhaka

Counterterrorism officials claimed to have arrested an operative of militant group "Neo JMB" from Babubazar area last evening.

Salek Alias Abu Salek, 19, along with some others, was preparing to perform hijrah (migration) to wage activities of the militant outfit, said Sk Imran Hossain, senior assistant commissioner of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Based on intelligence, a team of CTTC arrested him along with a mobile phone around 7:00pm yesterday, he said.

Salek joined the militant group in 2018. Recently, he and some other "Neo JMB" operatives communicated through social media and were preparing for hijrah, the police officer added.

They were also trying to collect arms and bomb making materials as per their plans to carry out subversive activities, Imran claimed.
