DNCC garbage truck runs over motorcyclist in Dhaka’s Kafrul

Traffic police died in road accident at Uttara

A man was killed after a garbage truck hit his motorcycle in Dhaka's Kafrul area this afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Sabbir Ahmed Rokey, aged around 25, police said.

A garbage truck of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) hit the motorcycle around 4:45pm at Mirpur-14 area, leaving him critically injured, said Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kafrul Police Station.

He was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, he said.

Police seized the truck and detained its driver, Abdus Salam, 50, following the incident, the OC added.

In November last year, two people -- a Notre Dame College student and a pillion rider -- were killed in separate accidents after two garbage trucks of both the city corporations hit them in the capital's Gulistan and Panthapath areas.

The death of the student sparked protest among students, forcing the city corporations to take several steps to prevent such accidents involving their garbage trucks.
