Attempt to rape child: ASI withdrawn for assaulting father who wants justice

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) has been withdrawn from Shibaloy Police Station for allegedly assaulting a man who went to police to seek justice following rape attempt on his five-year-old child in Manikganj.

The accused, ASI Arif Hossain, was withdrawn from the police station last night, Nurjahan Laboni, Additional Superintendent of Police (Shibaloy circle), told our Manikganj correspondent.

The police official said that departmental action would be taken against ASI Arif.

Efforts are on to arrest the accused in the attempted rape case, she added.

The victim's father said that on July 20, Rajjab Khan, cousin of Shibaloy upazila unit of Awami League member Mannan Khan, attempted to rape his child. Rajjab was caught red-handed by the child's grandmother.

The child's father was also threatened by the local influentials when he informed them.

Later, on August 14, he filed a written complaint with Shibaloy police station but no action was taken against the criminal yet, he said.

He also said that yesterday evening (August 20, 2022), he along with his mother and child went to the police station to know the update on his complaint. At the time, the officer-in-charge was not present at the station.

He said, "When ASI Arif approached me, I told him about the incident. But he did not believe me. He took me to a room and called AL leader Mannan over phone, and started to beat me. At one stage, I fell on the floor. Then he told me 'run'."

Later the victim took primary treatment from Shibaloy Upazila Health Complex. That night he went to Manikganj Police Superintendent's office and from there he went to Shibaloy Circle Additional Superintendent of Police office.
