Man killed over land dispute in Jamalpur

A 58-year-old man was allegedly killed by his nephew over a land dispute in Jamalpur's Madarganj upazila today.

The incident occurred around 10:00am in Teghria village of Charpakerdaha union.

The deceased Abdul Kalam, son of the late Hossain Ali of Teghria village, was a farmer by profession.

Quoting locals, Hasan Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Madarganj Police Station, said Abdul Kalam had a longstanding dispute with his nephew, Manju Mandal, over a few decimals of land.

A village arbitration was scheduled to resolve the matter this morning. However, before the arbitration could begin, a heated altercation broke out between the two. During the argument, Manju pushed Abdul Kalam, causing him to collapse unconscious to the ground, the OC said.

Relatives rushed Abdul Kalam to Madarganj Health Complex, where the doctor declared him dead, the OC added.

The body has been brought to the police station and will be sent to the morgue for an autopsy, police confirmed.
