Derogatory remarks on Padma Bridge: Local BNP leader arrested in Noakhali
Police yesterday (June 27, 2022) arrested a local BNP leader of Noakhali's Companiganj upazila for allegedly posting derogatory comments on social media over Padma Bridge.
The arrestee Abul kalam Azad (42), is a former general secretary of the Charhazari union BNP, said a press release issued by Md Shahidul Islam, superintendent of Noakhali police, reports our local correspondent.
Azad was arrested from his house at Basirhat municipality of the upazila around 7:00 pm yesterday, said the SP.
According to police, the BNP leader made the derogatory remarks about the country's largest bridge on Friday (June 24), a day before the bridge inauguration. Police arrested him last evening after the matter came to light.
The arrestee will be produced before the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court this morning.
Azad, however, claimed that such comments were made after his Facebook ID got hacked.
