Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikya Parishad has sued 400 to 500 BCL and Jubo League activists for carrying out an attack on the parishad's procession in Cumilla on Friday.

Two persons were arrested in connection with the attack.

They are Mohsin Ahmed Shipon, 35, of Rajgonj and Nur Mohammad Sawpon, 40, of Mogultuli area. They are activists of Cumilla City Jubo league, Abdullah Al Mahmud Shahid, convener of Cumilla City Jubo league, confirmed it to the Daily Star.

Both of them were produced before the court.

After the case was filed with Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station last night, Ahmed Sanjur Morshed, officer-in-charge of the police station said, "We are taking legal action against the attackers."

The complainant, Taposh Bakshi, secretary general of the parishad's Cumilla District unit, said, "We filed a complaint against 400-500 men who attacked our procession from behind."

Around 20/30 persons were injured in the attack, Taposh said.

The incident took place around 11:30am on Friday when the council brought out a procession protesting local lawmaker AKM Bahauddin Bahar's "disrespectful" remarks about Durga Puja.

On October 4, Bahauddin during a meeting on the upcoming Durga Puja at the DC office spoke on consumption of alcohol at the puja mandaps and making mandaps free from alcohol.

His remarks drew criticism from Oikya Parishad which issued a statement on October 8 condemning the statements.

On Friday, the parishad oraganised the rallies at different parts of the country, including Dhaka, protesting Bahauddin's "disrespectful" remarks about Durga Puja, Munshiganj Mayor Faisal Biplab's "communal" remarks against local MP Mrinal Kanti Das, attack on poet Radhapada Roy in Kurigram, and vandalism of temples at different places.
