3 shot, 12 injured as AL, BNP clash in Bogura

At least three people sustained bullet injuries and 12 others were injured as Awami League and BNP men clashed at Purbopara area under Bogura's Gabtali upazila this afternoon (May 29, 2022).

Among the injured, eight people were admitted to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, reports our local correspondent quoting police.

Police had to fire rubber bullets and use tear gas shells to bring the situation under control, said Md Sirazul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gabtali Model Police Station.

Abdur Razzak Milu, president of Gabtali upazila unit AL, alleged that a female leader of BNP made derogatory speech against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last Friday.

We organised different protest rallies and demonstrations protesting the issue, he said.

"Today, when our procession went in front of BNP Gabtali upazila unit President Morshed Milton's house at around 1:30pm, BNP men without provocation hurled brick chips that triggered the clash where our 5/6 men got injured," he claimed.

Asked, Bogura district unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal General Secretary Noore Alam Siddiq Rigan said while crossing the BNP party office, AL men started vandalising Gabtali BNP's party office.

"When we tried to resist them, the clash ensued", he said, adding seven of their activists were injured in the clash.

Contacted, OC Sirazul Islam said the situation is under control now.

We have deployed additional police at the spot to fend off any untoward incident, he added.
