Construction of MRT-1 to start in January 2023: MAN Siddique
Construction of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-1, which will be the country's first underground metro line, will begin in January next year, MAN Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), said today.
He made the announcement while addressing the inauguration programme of a section of MRT Line-6, which connects the capital's Agargaon to Uttara North.
The first underground metro line will have two parts -- one from Dhaka airport to Kamalapur and the other from Notun Bazar to Purbachal.
Siddique said the construction work of MRT-5 (northern route) would be inaugurated in July 2023.
MRT-5 (northern route) line will be from Savar's Hemayetpur to Bhatara via Gabtoli, Mirpur and Gulshan.
He said they were expecting that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would inaugurate the construction work of both lines.
The work of MRT-6 line till Motijheel will be completed by December 2023 and will be extended to Kamalapur by June 2025, Siddique said.
