Bus ticket crisis at Kalyanpur counters

Availability of advance bus tickets hit a lurch today at Kalyanpur with holiday planners going in full spree purchase on the second day of sales ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Yesterday, sales were low due as Dhaka was slowly recovering from the spate of student protests that paralysed the capital’s transportation system.

A large number of people were seen today at the bus counters in Kallyanpur, queuing for advanced tickets and many complaining that tickets were not available.

Liton Mia, a medical equipment businessman, told The Daily Star: " I came last night, they told me to come today. But today tickets are not available."

Another Anwar Hossain told The Daily Star that he wanted to go to Dinajpur on August 18, but due to the scarcity of tickets he will be purchasing ticket of an earlier date.

Seeking anonymity, a counter manager told The Daily Star that they have to keep reservation for the transport owners and their friends and families. “We can’t sell those tickets without their permission.”
